Description
The VT979 is a five slots chassis that accommodates one VT801 and four of the VT505 modules.
Power Supplies
The VT979 has a Universal AC power supply with circulator connector. There is an ON/OFF switch to turn on the AC and there is a separate switch on the opposition side of the chassis to turn on the DC supply to the modules.
Cooling
The VT979 is front to back cooling.
Backplane
The backplane provides five slots, one for the VT801 and four VT505. The VT505 are connected to each other thru a full mesh. The backplane routes the ethernet and RS-232 port from each of the VT505 to the VT801. The backplane also distributes the calibration signal from the VT801 to each of the VT505.
I/O
All the 64 ADC are routed to the chassis panel using high quality audio cable to a multiple ganged circular connector (total of 8 circular connectors to carry the 64 ADC). The calibration signal is via a BNC style and there is a 10GbE for the uplink.
Chassis Locator and Geographic Address
Each chassis could be assigned a unique Chassis Locator (CL) and each slot has a unique Geographic Address (GA) within the chassis. A combination of the CL/GA will provide a unique address for large deployment, which helps for example in the configuration of the IP address automatically.
