Redundant Power in a 1U MicroTCA Chassis

 

Offering redundant power in a front-to-rear cooled 1U MicroTCA chassis would typically take up critical space for AMCs.  Using dual Power Modules (typically full-size — 6HP each) in the card cage would take up 3 AMC slots.  This approach would not be practical in a 1U chassis. 

 

To achieve the redundant power with failover, the power modules can be placed in the rear.  The fans are placed in the rear with the PSUs on the same carrier in front of them.   

 

The VT840 MicroTCA chassis also allows the option for two independent non-redundant power segments.   The chassis also has quad SFP+ ports for 10GbE and quad SAS for high-speed storage throughput.
