AdvancedTCA

COTS ATCA for Military & Aerospace Applications

AdvancedTCA® or ATCA® technology is one of the most successful open, bladed architectures for high-performance, ultra-reliable network computing. Originally designed for telecom central office applications, military and aerospace equipment makers are now adopting the standard to meet their high performance embedded computing (HPEC) requirements. These customers are driven by the DoD’s Open Systems Architecture (OSA) – formerly called the modular open system approach (MOSA), commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) directives and the need to reduce size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C).

The adoption of ATCA is growing most quickly in network-centric defense and avionics applications that require high end computing with more IO than is possible in standard servers and which have environmental requirements greater than a typical data center.

At VadaTech, our focus is on creating technology based on the ATCA open standard that is tailored to the specific needs of military and aerospace prime contractors. In addition to commercial-grade products, we build specialty IO blades, carrier blades and chassis to help you create innovative, high-performance mission-critical solutions that operate anywhere, every time.

A focus on designing ruggedized products that can be deployed in harsh environments, with uptime reliability for heightened data-processing demands, makes VadaTech’s COTS ATCA technology the right choice.

Where is ATCA deployed in militaryand aerospace applications today?

  • RADAR / SONAR systems
  • SIG-INT systems
  • C4ISR/electronic warfare systems
  • Communications servers
  • Airborne reconnaissance
  • Shipboard communications and data center consolidation
  • Naval tactical combat systems refresh
  • Theater command centers Mobile Tactical Operations Centers (TOCs)
  • Ground and airborne battle management systems
  • Net-centric converged solutions for voice, video, and data

Processors

VadaTech offers ATCA processor blades featuring dual 10-core Intel® Xeon® processors in both 40G and 10G Ethernet variants for maximum performance in a single slot. Our carrier modules offer more versatility, combining a single Intel Xeon processor with a PCIe Gen3 slot so you can add storage, co-processing or acceleration devices to your ATCA system. We also have a range of compatible Rear Transition Modules (RTMs) to expand your IO options.

Shelf Management

VadaTech provides the highest-performance shelf managers in the market. Our creative modular design allows easy integration into your platform, reducing costs and ensuring the most reliable operation. Our range of carriers for shelf manager modules means they can easily be integrated with our own ATCA systems as well as chassis from other leading suppliers. The IPMB-0 Bus Analyzer is a bench-top standalone shelf manager and can manage any number of ATCA modules during debugging and development. We also offer an IPMI Controller reference schematic as a complete hardware and software solution as a quick way for you to develop for the ATCA form factor without prior IPMI knowledge.

Digital and Serial I/O

VadaTech offers ATCA Rear Transition Modules (RTMs) for additional storage and IO interfaces to bring expandability to your system via rear IO. Our range covers blades that follow the common pinout definition on Zone 3, such as Sun Microsystems Netra CP3260, CP3220 and the VadaTech ATC114, as well as RTMs designed and tested with specific VadaTech blades or specific blades from other vendors, such as the Artesyn (formerly Emerson) ATCA-7360 and ATCA-7365.

Development

VadaTech has developed a range of unique products to accelerate your development, simplify your testing and enable you and your customers to deploy smoothly. We have a range of ATCA blades for IPMI software development. You can do simulate shock and vibration for both front and rear ATCA blades while testing an ATCA chassis. Also, our VT000 power module enables powering a single ATCA blade during development.
